Christmas in May - The new back doors arrived

Well, the freight truck with my doors and window arrived today.  It was a bit of a fiasco to unload the 500lb double-length pallet from the truck.  I am so excited.  I think these 104" doors are going to be a great addition to the house.  As with everything, its going to be another project.  The doors have a few? rough spots...

a. Fill deadbolt hole
b. Fill surface lock hole
c. Fix minor rail/stile separation
d. Fill holes/nicks and prime/paint.
e. Replace 1 pane of glass
f. Repair stile damage around lockset area

Below are the pictures of the uncrating.

  2. Awesome looking doors. One question that I have is what steps will you be taking to make them weather tight? We still have the original double front doors on our house, but after 122 years, they need some adjustments to stop an insane amount of air from leaking out our in during the winter.

  4. Well the short answer is "i dont know yet". The house came with double-doors on the front of the house too. They appear to have their fair share of gaps b/c the previous owner caulked them shut. I haven't made any attempts to fix them yet. As for the new back doors, we have to build the jam from scratch so we have the opportunity to make a precision fit. Spring bronze weatherstripping around the perimeter and a good threshold should probably do wonders. Have you seen this article: http://www.oldtownhome.com/2011/8/25/Old-Door-Weatherstripping-Dress-it-up-with-Spring-Bronze/index.aspx.
Also, my door appear to have originally had a narrow strip of wood where the the doors meet. Like this: http://i.imgur.com/WmuW9.png
